Area Manager Phase 1:

Distributor Inside Sales Manager

The Performance Foodservice Area Manager position begins with our inside sales development program in Swedesboro, NJ. This twelve-month program will have a dual focus: product education and best practices in culinary sales. Upon completion, our graduates will possess a robust understanding of the products we stock and distribute to our independent restaurant operators.

During this time, you will also be able to ride along with sales leaders, providing you exposure to the entire sales process. Shortly after, and accompanied by your district manager, you will start to make sales calls to existing Performance Foodservice customers. Your role is to support these existing accounts which will entail building relationships while you build our brands and maximize their sales exposure. This is not a cold-calling program. You will have extensive support and resources behind you all the way, along with the most advanced sales technology.

Area Manager Phase 2:

Distributor Area Sales Manager

The next phase of the Sales Developmental program will include a promotion to an Area Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and developing your own sales territory in an assigned geographical area. This role offers schedule flexibility and is a remote position. Area Managers are expected to attend all organized culinary events, sales meetings, and product trainings. Phase 1 will fully prepare you for the new challenges and opportunities in Phase 2.

What will training encompass?

  • Responsible for learning about the development of independent account business, with emphasis on overall profitability through both new sales and account penetration.

  • Promote and sell company branded products and meet new brand sales objectives.

  • Generates additional business through analyzing sales territory and individual customers; samples products with existing and potential customers; plans general sales strategy including time and territory management; plans sales approach with individual customers; and conducts effective sales presentations.

  • Grows sales and profit margins on an ongoing basis to meet established sales and margin goals.

  • Sets up new customer accounts by determining pricing; works with Credit Department for initial authorization; other center personnel for scheduling order-taking, deliveries, etc. Performs initial follow-up work with customer ensuring delivery and product satisfaction.

  • Ensures customer satisfaction by providing an exemplary level of service by working closely with other center personnel to coordinate efforts to prevent and resolve customer problems.

  • Builds additional business with current customers through product penetration in order to maximize profitability of individual accounts.

  • Minimizes accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and follows up on any problems.

  • Maintains awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly on market driven/commodity products, to ensure competitive pricing.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
